When it comes to artificial intelligence, there needs to come around a rather big change in the mass’ perception of the concept. Many people are horribly under informed or uninformed entirely, and most are apprehensive about the idea of embracing it and incorporating it into their everyday work lives. The popular notion seems to be one that suggests that once such a point of technological advancement is reached that exponentially increases the capabilities of artificial intelligence, the human element would be rendered useless, and the people will be replaced by robots. On the face of it, this does seem like a rather grim outcome, particularly keeping in mind the gung ho attitude that advocates of the technology in question often call for.
The thing is, there are several erroneous assumptions at play in the problem spelt out above. For starters, the robots aren’t on their way still, they are already here. Artificial Intelligence in all its glory is here among us as you read this, and what’s more: it’s not a scary prospect at all to those using it, it is in fact precisely the proposed aid, or one may even go to the extent of calling it ‘superpower’, that it was suppose to be, for the recruiters employing its services.
Given the nature of the work that recruiters deal with on a daily basis, it would in fact be naive to think it possible for human involvement to be rendered obsolete in the practice of recruitment. Why, such a large part of the recruitment process hinges on the human interaction between the recruiters and the candidates, which is what sets the tone for the future relationship the candidate may or may not have with the company.
This interaction is often directly affected by how much a recruiter has on his/her plate at the moment when they are interfacing with a potential employee. And this is precisely where Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning come to the rescue of the over worked, exhausted, obsessing-over-numbers, tired-0f-menial-tasks recruiter, and free them up mentally and physically to better focus on the parts of the process where human interaction is, as mentioned earlier, indispensible.
Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, robots, they do intend to take away from recruiters. In fact, Artificial Intelligence essentially has one purpose and one purpose alone: to take away from the recruiter all the repetitive, tedious and time-consuming tasks that would previously have taken a person a considerable amount of effort besides the time, to complete. Also, given the nature of tedious efforts such as sifting through databases, inevitably increases the chances of human error the longer a person stays at it. It is only natural; it does not necessarily mean a recruiter is not up to the task.
Now, if all such tasks are entrusted to Artificial Intelligence, not only do they get done faster, but they are also guaranteed to be free of human error. Well, obviously. But what’s more, they also happen in a fraction of the time it would have taken a person to do them. And that’s not all, machine learning ensures that each time such a function is run through a medium of Artificial Intelligence, it is done a slight bit more efficiently that the last. And this happens every single time.
A direct result of this sequence of events is that a recruiter is not swamped with a lengthy to do list and a ton of stress weighing on their mind when they meet the candidates for the indispensible human parts of the process. This directly affects both the candidate and the company in a positive way, for the candidate walks away thinking highly of a company whose recruiters had the time to address all their questions and expectations at length instead of rushing them through the rounds of interview with bare minimum attention, and the company gets the best possible, the cream, so to speak, of the potential employees out there, and thus inevitably achieves more of its goals in a very impressive time frame.
Thus does Artificial Intelligence empower recruiters everywhere, transforming them with superhuman abilities to conquer the world of recruitment and come out on top. So stop being afraid of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and embrace them with open arms, for they mean a world of good, and absolutely no harm!
